SO... we're well into January, past  "Blue Monday" and FOTOCAN will begin its projects this weekend!

Peru, Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Mexico will be hosting Canadian student and adult teams. All teams are reportedly FULL!

I will be departing for DR on Saturday and then straight to Mexico, FOTOCAN's first project in that country, on February 5. Hopefully, we can have some bloggers from each country to let you know what and how we are doing.

Now with some real snow and winter approaching, you can vicariously enjoy the warm sunshine and adventures of our team members.

Thank you for all contributions for 2018 and we hope you will continue support for all our endeavours to come.........

Forgive me for not blogging in November. I spent 24 glorious days in Puerta Plata on vacation with my husband. Ah, the joy of being retired!

Okay, so maybe you won't forgive me.

As this year wraps up, we are pleased to be sending 8 teams out to our homes in 2019. We are dismayed that Nicaragua cannot be visited because of our govenrments's travel ban to that country.

We welcome home Javier Perello Rowland from his service in Mexico and Max McAuley bon voyage as he departs this month to begin in January for 13 months at the home in Dominican Republic .

We also close this 40th anniversary year and look forward to the next 40 years!

Peace and all the best in 2019 and have a very blessed Christmas season.

Last week, we were shocked by the news of the death of one of our own in the FOTOCAN family. I have not known Mike Markoff for a long time, but I admired and respected him from the moment I met him.  A stern man, private and confident, eminating a  no-holds-barred attitude,  yet gentle with a witty sense of humour. He sat at our board table with authority and a wide knowledge of all that was discussed. I spent time with Mike in Mexico at the celebration of 60 years of Father Wasson's founding of NPH. He kept us in stitches with his amusing stories of his family and introduced me to Peruvian ceviche.

One of the last times I saw Mike, he showed up to our board meeting with socks on his feet that he promptly propped up on the table, revealing an "inspirational" text sewn into the sole of the socks. I laughed so hard and he actually sent me a pair of the same socks in the mail which I will now treasure as his one and only gift to someone who very much admired him . I know I speak for all our board members when I say we shall miss Mike tremendously - his zeal, his wit, his ideas and his inspiration.  Rest in peace, Mike.....

Welcome to our new site. So thrilled to be able to bring you a more comprehensive and interactive web-site where donations can be easily submitted, processed and credited. It has been a long but rewarding process and this board member has had to journey through a challenging learning curve!  We welcome suggestions and comments about our new site and encourage you to share as much as possible so we can continue to do our work with the less fortunate. Happy autumn and hope to hear lots of good things from you!

Can't wait! Our new web-site is almost ready to roll out! We're looking at about a week and I am still trying to get used to all the bells and whistles that come with this wonderful program! Thanks to REM, especially Brad, Todd, Christine and Rob for making this journey easy... and fun! Feel free to let us know how we are doing and what we can do to clearly inform you of our stuff! Happy September and we'll see you soon!

Paz y bien (peace and goodness)

Joy
