Ewald Lammerding

Ewald passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 with several family members at his side, and others who had to say their goodbyes from a distance during his final days.  He will be lovingly and forever remembered by his children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There are many people whom Ewald considered part of an informal, extended, global family and who will miss his good cheer and friendship.

(We are currently accepting donations to our Farm Project 2023 at the DR home in Ewald's honour)

Emma Lammerding

Donna Mair

Passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 15, 2019

at the age of 65 years. Donna travelled extensively with Friends of the Orphans Canada beginning in 2009 in the Dominican Republic with our medical team. She served as a volunteer in Nicaragua, and Bolivia and worked and travelled with her beloved companion, Cathy Miller and both ladies served in our board of directors for several years. She sponsored many children and actively raised funds for the homes with her crochet crafts.  Donna's infectious laugh and dry humour will always echo in the minds of her fellow board members and her absence will be heartfelt by the children in each NPH home who knew her.

Michael Markoff

Michael Markoff spent many years being very involved in the work of Friends of the Orphans Canada. He served in several positions both at the local and international level.

Michael served as director, president and general legal counsel of Friends of the Orphans Canada.  He served as the Canadian representative on the Board of Directors of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos International general assembly and International Finance Committee.
Mike was very involved in the building of the NPH homes in Guatemala and Peru. His passion also ran very deep for the people and the work in Haiti.  His legacy and giving to the efforts of Friend of the Orphans Canada and NPH continue to have a lasting impact.

Norman Silberberg

For many years, Norman and his wife, Gabriella, have been involved in the work of Friends of the Orphans Canada. They have sponsored children and have sacrificially given to the work in Haiti. Norman spent several years as a very valued member of our Board of Directors in the position of general counsel. He brought much insight and direction to the organization and was instrumental in bringing a tremendous vision of what could be accomplished by the organization. As Norman's health failed, he was not deterred in his commitment to FOTOCAN and was always keeping up with the current affairs of FOTOCAN and NPHI by attending meetings or offering suggestions. Norman's gentle spirit will be sadly missed by all those he touched at FOTOCAN.

Betty Weiler

Betty was a demure lady who was part of FOTOCAN from the very beginning in 1977. She served as the executive director, secretary, office staff and wore many other hats for FOTOCAN for decades. In 1998, Betty was honoured by NPH upon the completion of twenty years of service. Although Betty had long since given up all of the administrative tasks she had been doing, she still was very much involved in the organization. We could always see her smiling face at almost every annual general meeting. She showed her love and loyalty to FOTOCAN right up until the age of 96, when she would still drive herself to the office sometimes to visit, drop off cards for her godchildren, or spend hours helping with a mailing. She was an amazing lady and will be terribly missed.

Jeff White

It was with great sadness that we learned of the sudden passing of Jeff White,

co-owner of Charleston Homes on July 21, 2017. For over two decades, Jeff was a diligent supporter of the work of FOTOCAN.  He served as a valued member of our board of directors for several years, he participated in many volunteer projects to our homes over the years, and he and his wife, Lisa, participated in our godparent program, supporting NPH children consistently through the years. Jeff passionately spoke to others about FOTOCAN's work, and encouraged them to help the children in the care of the NPH homes. Jeff has left behind a tremendous legacy in his short time with us; he will be missed.

Thank you for your kindness, dear volunteers!
